The State University of New York at Canton (SUNY Canton), located in the Town of Canton in St. Lawrence County, New York, currently offers a wide variety of career-driven bachelor's, associate, and certificate programs. The college also offers three unique master's degrees in conjunction with SUNYIT, Utica. Most of SUNY Canton’s new four-year programs are designed so students can take them on-campus, online, or both. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 65 courses online each semester. The college will be offering a Master of Public Administration degree, jointly with Excelsior College, in 2008. The college is transitioning to a four-year athletic program, expected to begin in the Fall 2007 semester. The college marked its 100-year anniversary in 2006. There are a number of professors there, the best widely known as being Mr. William Barnes.

SUNY Canton is northwest of the Village of Canton on the Grasse River.

Residence halls

Suny Canton offers students the option of living in residence halls on campus. The four residence halls are Smith Hall, Mohawk Hall, Rushton Hall, and Heritage Hall. Each has its own unique style of living.[1][2]

Clubs and organizations

Students participate in several clubs and organizations under the umbrella of the student government, Student Cooperative Alliance with staff support from Student Activities, including but not limited to: Aerobics Club, Afro-Latin Society, African Union, Alpha Phi Sigma,Business & Accounting Club (Deca Chapter), College Union Board, Computer Club, Commuter Club, Criminal Justice and Public Service Club, Early Childhood, FootPrints, GSA (Gay Straight Alliance), Gospel Choir, Greek Council, Habitat for Humanity, HAC'KERS, Horse Club, Mortuary Science Association, NAO (Native American Organization), Nursing Club, Omega Alpha Club (commuting students), Outing Club, Ultimate Freesbee Club, Phi Theta Kappa (academic honor society), Taekwondo (Korean Marshal Arts), VTA (Veterinary Technicians Association), WATC Radio and finally Zen-Do Kai Karate Club.[3]

Sports

Suny Canton offers several sport choices to students that attend the college some of which are: Woman's Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball and Softball. For men sports they also offer Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Hockey and Baseball. There is a major interest on campus with sports, especially hockey, as well as soccer.The college is currently building a sports activity complex to replace its aging Dana Hall sports complex, the new complex which is called Roos House will include Swimming, Hockey, and Basketball facilities, is projected to be completed by Spring 2010. There is also a Greek community, which includes four fraternities and four Sororities. The fraternities are Alpha Theta Gamma or TG, Alpha Omega Chi or Omega Chi, Delta Kappa Sigma or DK, and Zeta Alpha Phi or ZAP. The sororities include Alpha Chi Omicron or AXO, Delta Sigma Tau or Sig Tau, Kappa Xi Omega or Kappa Xi, and Pi Nu Epsilon or Pi Nu.[4]

In 2008 SUNY Canton started a second hockey team. This club team acts in place of a JV team giving individuals extra opportunities to play hockey at the college level.
