This page covers detailed information about the repertoire of the Stellenbosch University Choir. For more information about the choir, see their main page.

The Stellenbosch University Choir strives for excellence with regards to their repertoire. Every year their conductor, Andre van der Merwe, collects music at the various contest he adjudicates and international workshops he attends. The best works are then selected and prepared for the following year's Choir members.

Upon finalising the repertoire and the Choir for the following year, there is a first meeting (usually in late October) where the "new" Choir gets to meet one another and have a first look at the music. They then have until early the following year (usually early in February) to study through the music and prepare for the final audition which guarantees a place in the Choir for that year.

Selection of music is somewhat different when preparing for an international competition such as the World Choir Games, as there are a few limitations in place at these contests. Usually the categories entered into are finalised first, after which four pieces per category are chosen. The pieces need to be of the highest standard possible and are usually pieces that have seldom before been performed by other choirs.

The entire repertoire is generally very dynamic and the Choir members have an input in the final composition with regards to the inclusion/exclusion of certain pieces. The repertoire will also grow to the end of the year as the Choir is asked to perform at specific occasions and prepare for certain special performances. An example would be the performance of Sinfonia Africana in 2004.
