Super Bowl XLVIII, the 48th edition of the Super Bowl and the 46th modern era National Football League championship game, is scheduled to be played in 2014. The host city and stadium are expected to be announced in May of 2010.

It will be simulcast in Canada by CTV, with all U.S. commercials removed per Canadian federal law.

Stadiums up for bid to host Super Bowl

As of February 10, 2010, three stadiums have placed bids to host the game. They are:

  1. Meadowlands Stadium - East Rutherford, New Jersey[1]
  2. Sun Life Stadium - Miami Gardens, Florida[2]
  3. Raymond James Stadium - Tampa, Florida[3]

Of these stadiums, two have previously hosted Super Bowls. If Meadowlands Stadium is chosen it would be the fifth time the Super Bowl would be held in what the NFL determines to be a "cold-weather city", joining Super Bowls XVI, XXVI, XL, and XLVI. Since the Meadowlands Stadium does not have a roof it would be the first cold-weather Super Bowl game played in an open stadium and the 1st Super Bowl ever to be in the New York Metropolitan Area.
