Sy Kravitz in 2004

Seymour "Sy" Kravitz (December 10, 1924 – October 29, 2005) was an American filmmaker and NBC TV news producer.

Kravitz was of Russian Jewish descent.[1] He was married to Roxie Roker from 1962 to 1985. Kravitz and Roker were the parents of the rock musician Lenny Kravitz. Lenny, born in 1964, was named after his uncle, PFC Leonard Kravitz, who was killed in action in the Korean War while defending against a Chinese attack and saving most of his platoon; he was posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross.[2]

Sy was a famous Hollywood producer and his environment of celebrities and up-and-coming stars was influential on his son's musical career. He died of leukemia in New York City at the age of 80 when Lenny Kravitz was having his first concert in the all-US tour with Aerosmith. The Let Love Rule singer paid tribute to his father in front of fans at a Mohegan Sun Casino Arena show in Connecticut on October 31, 2005.
