TV1, the popular television station from RTM appeared with a new image and a new name to "Saluran Infotainmen Anda" (formerly known as "Saluran Perdana") by the former Information Minister, Datuk Paduka Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir on 3 August 2004 that focuses as the medium for government to channeling information to Malaysians regarding the government affairs and also entertainment such as dramas, music show and films.
The channel changed its slogan to "Saluran Inforia" and was renamed as RTM1 on 1 January 2006 by the former Information Minister, Dato' Zainuddin Maidin. The change of its slogan to "Saluran Inforia" from "Saluran Infotainmen Anda" is in line with the government's policy to use the Malay language properly. "Infotainmen" is deemed improper (as it is a word combining Informasi, a Malay loanword and Entertainmen (Entertainment, an English word.)
On the 1 January 2009, RTM television stations was once again restructured by Dato' Ahmad Shabery Cheek, former Information Minister. RTM1 was renamed back as TV1 and the new slogan "Saluran Informasi" (Information Channel) is currently being used. The restructuring was being done to ensure that RTM will be fully prepared for their digitalisation process by 2012[1].
