Born in 1991 with the honorary title of "1st Brazilian RPG", Tagmar, then published by the GSA was the first Brazilian product to a market that still would be formed. Tagmar was a typical RPG from the beginning of the 90s, but had a series of innovations, the main one was to have everything that an RPG needed in a single book, rules, setting, magic, creatures and a ready adventure for beginners. At the time, the RPG books were imported and it was necessary to have several books to play them. With a setting based on the books of J. R. R. Tolkien, it has been accused unjustly of being based on D&D, especially by Dragão Brasil Magazine, at the time edited by Marcelo Cassaro, but in fact it was a very different system. Due to various characteristics, including the price, availability and new ideas, such as the unprecedented concept of Heroic Energy; in a short time, Tagmar became a success, gathering a large amount of fans. Along the 90´s the world of Tagmar was enlarged by the publication of complementaries books as the "Creatures Book" (Livro de Criaturas) and "The Empire" (O Império). This books take a several details (as appearance, skills and habitat) of the creatures of Tagmar and informations about new geographic regions.
This success lasted until nearly the end of the 90s, when in 1997 the publisher GSA closed. Without a publisher to continue the Tagmar remained stagnant.
In September 2004, the authors of the RPG Tagmar met, in a historic decision, decided to release the commercial rights of the RPG, as long as it was not for profit ... With this resolution in hand, a group of people met and decided to create a new version of Tagmar ... Thus was born the Project Tagmar 2.
This project was created following the form of Open Gaming using a Creative Commons license. In this type of design products are created / developed through volunteer work and use a special license in which all material is generated from open license. Using this organization, the Tagmar 2 Project was designed with two main objectives:
