Qudwat ul Awliya, Shaykh ul Mashaikh, Naqeeb ul Ashraaf Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al Qadri Al Gillani Al-Baghdadi was one of the greatest Sufi Saints who came in the last century. He was the head of Silsilah e Qadiriah, Custodian of the Shrine of Ghous-e-Azzam Shaykh Syedna Abdul-Qadir Gillani, the Spiritual Guide of over 10 Millions Disciples from across the world and a reformer of Tassawwuf and Tariqat. Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani was acknowledged as the 'Ghous and Qutb of his Era' by many eminent Mashaikh and Awliya of the time, which include Mufti e Azzam e Hind, Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan Qadri Noori, Muhadith-e-Azzam e Pakistan Maulana Sardar Ahmed Qadri, and Ghazzali e Dauran Allama Ahmed Saeed Kazmi . He was born in Baghdad on 18 June 1932 and died on 7 June 1991. He is the 17th descendant of the Shaykh Abdul-Qadir Gilani and the 28th descendant of Islamic prophet Muhammad.
In 1956, Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani left Baghdad on the instructions of Ghous-e-Azzam Shaykh Syedna Abdul Qadir Mohyuddin Gillani and migrated to Pakistan, settling permanently in Quetta. He stayed in Pakistan till his demise in June 1991. He has three sons Hazoor Sahibzada Pir Al-Syed Mahmood Mohyuddin Al-Gillani Al-Qadri, Hazoor Sahibzada Pir Al-Syed Abdul Qadir Jamaluddin Al-Gillani Al-Qadri and Hazoor Sahibzada Pir Al-Syed Muhammad Ziauddin Al-Gillani Al-Qadri, who are all busy in propagating the teachings of Silsilah e Qadiriah Tahiria.
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani belongs to a saintly family of Iraq who are the custodians of the mausoleum of Sayyidna Shaykh Abdul-Qadir Gilani. He is the youngest of the six sons of Shaykh Sayyidna Mahmood Hisamudin. His grandfather Shaykh Sayyidna Abd Al-Rahman Al-Gillani was the first Prime Minister of Iraq during (11 November 1920 - 20 November 1922) following the dissolution of the Ottoman Empire. The current Custodian of the Shrine of Shaykh Syedna Abdul-Qadir Gilani is his elder-brother, Naqeeb ul Ashraaf Syedna Ahmed Zafar Al-Gillani (who is the ex-ambassador of Iraq to Pakistan)
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani studied under notable scholars of his time. His early education started in the mosque of Sultan Ali, Baghdad. He then moved to the mausoleum of Shaykh Sayyidna Abdul-Qadir Gillani. His teachers were renowned scholars of the time such as Mullah Syed Asad Afandi, Mufti Qasim, and Sheikh Khalil. He completed his Dars-e-Nizami and also acquired knowledge of Quran, Hadith, and Fiqh from the Grand Mufti of Iraq.
His spiritual journey started under the guidance of his father Imaam-ul-Arifeen Naqeeb ul Ashraaf Syedna Mahmood Hussamuddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani , who was a renowned Sufi Saint at that time and custodian of the sanctuary of Shaykh Abdul-Qadir Gilani. He used to spend nights in ibadah at the mausoleum of Sayyidna Shaykh Muhyiuddin Abdul-Qadir Gilani.
For the propagation of Silsilah e Qadiriah, Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani travelled across the globe visiting countries such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Sweden, Norway, Holland, England, West Germany, Morocco, Saigon, Belgium, America, Canada, Korea, Indonesia, Seoul, Burma, Japan, Sri Lanka, Singapore, India, Gulf States, remote parts of Africa and the Middle East.
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani had a circle of over 10 Million Disciples, which include Kings, Rulers, Tribal Leaders, Scholars, Engineers, Doctors etc. Some of his well-known Disciples include; Pir Syed Khalid Ali Tahiri Qadri, Haji Sher Jaan Qadri, Former President Marshall Ayub Khan, General Zia ul Haq, Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan (Brailly Shareef), Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri, Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Riaz ul Hassan Sarwari etc. Other frequent faces who frequently attended his gatherings include; Zia-ul-Ummat Pir Karam Shah Al-Azhari, Pir Syed Kabir Ali Shah Sahib (Chura Shareef), Shaykh Syed Hashim Yousuf Hashim Ar-Rifai, Sultan Pir Fiaz-ul-Hassan Sarwari Qadri, Allama Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani, Maulana Muhammad Ilyas Attar (Ameer-e-Dawat e Islami), Former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhuto, Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Allama Maulana Shafi Okarvi, Haji Muhammad Hanif Tayyab, Pir of Deval Shareef, Pir of Pagaro, Ghulam Muhammad Dosal, and Ansar Burney etc.
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani were taken seriously ill towards the end of their life. On the constant insistence of their disciples, they went to Germany for Medical treatment. He died on 7 June 1991 (Friday, 23rd Zequad 1411 A.H).
When this sad news was broken, the full country went into mourning. Thousands of People including many eminent Mashaikh and Ulama gathered from across the country to catch a last glimpse of the Ghous of his era. The first Funeral Prayer was led by Prof Dr Muhammad Tahir ul Qadri in Nishtar Park (Karachi) and then a second a Funeral Prayer was held in Township (Lahore), which was led by Zia-ul-Ummat Pir Muhammad Karam Shah Al-Azhari. The Final Burial took place at 3:00a.m.
The actual burial was originally planned to take place in Baghdad, alongside the shrine of Shaykh Syedna Abdul-Qadir Gilani and other Family Members of Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani but this was not possible, due to the current war. The family then decided that the burial would take place in Pakistan but the location was unclear until a spiritual instruction was received from Data Ali Hajveri to have Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani brought to Lahore and laid to rest with them in their city. A separate piece of land was allocated in Township, Lahore, which the Blessed Shezadgaan purchased. This area has now been renamed Baghdad Town. The Third Largest Itikaaf Gathering (after Makkah tul Mukurramah and Madinah Tul Munawwarah) is also held at this same location. His mausoleum is being built similar to the shrine of Shaykh Muhyiuddin Abdul-Qadir Gilani.
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani received many Proposals of marriage from many rulers and kings who desired that he would marry their daughters but he would always politely decline and respond that ‘This matter wil only be considered when the command comes from Allah’. At the age of 35, Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani married Her Royal Highness the Princess of Kalat, the Saintly Daughter of His Royal Highness Sardar Ahmad Yaar Khan (Khan-e-Azam of Kalat).
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani has Three Sons and Three Daughters.
All Three Sons are following in the footsteps of their esteemed father and their ancestors and have devoted their lives for the propagation of Silsilah e Qadiriah. For this purpose, they visit various places across Pakistan and the rest of the world and administer Baith in Silsilah e Qadiria Tahiria.
All three sons lead ascetic lives and are perfect [Sufi] Masters of the present era. They are all engaged in rendering invaluable service to Islam and Silsilah e Qadiria. They all portray the excellence, grandeur and grace of their highly esteemed ancestors.
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani bestowed Khilafat (Spiritual Authorisation) to 33 personalities. They bestowed Khilafats mostly to other Mashaikh so that they could receive spiritual blessings (Faiz). Only a few individuals received Khilafat and permission to administer Baith in Silsilah e Qadiria Tahiria.
In 2007, Hazoor Pir-e-Tareeqat Rehbar-e-Shariat Sahibzada Pir Al-Syed Muhammad Ziauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani inaugrated Darbar-e-Ghousia Qadiria Tahiria in Bradford-UK. This Darbar Shareef is run under the spiritual supervision and guidance of His Eminence Pir Syed Khalid Ali Tahiri Qadri (Sajjada Nasheen Darbar-e-Ghousia Qadiria Tahiria UK) and has the direct approval and Tawwujjah (Spiritual Glance) of all Three Shezadgaan (Sons. Pir Sahib has the unique distinction of being the only Khalifah and representative of Hazoor Syedna Qudwat ul Awliya(ra) in the whole western hemisphere (U.K, Europe, America) and likewise, this is the only Darbar Shareef in this side of the world which is distributing the Spiritual Faiz of Hazoor Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra).
Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani was very fond of collecting Stamps, Coins and Jewels (Pearls/Diamonds etc). He remained Patron-Incharge of the Stamps Collecting Society and had the largest Stamp Collection in Pakistan and the 4th largest Stamp Collection in the World. In his Coin Collection, rare and ancient coins were found such as ones made from Gold, Silver and even Leather! He was also very fond of listening to the Radio
The respect and reverence given to Hazoor Pir Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra) by the greatest other Mashaikh and Awliya has no parallel in the subcontinent.
When Qudwat-ul-Awliya Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Qadri Al-Gillani visited Brailly Shareef, the welcome given to him by Mufti-e-Azzam e Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan Noori (the Beloved son of Ala Hazrat Imaam Ahmed Raza Khan Brailly) is beyond describable. Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan, alongside thousands of his Mureeds covered the entire distance from the Railway Station to the Main Khanqah (Several Miles) to welcome Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani to Brailly Shareef. The crowd was so enthuastic that they picked up the actual car Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani was travelling on their shoulders till they reached their destinaton. During the Three Days that Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani stayed in Brailly Shareef, Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan remained barefooted and would personally attend for the service of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani such as preparing water so Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani could perform ablution. Maulana Mustafa Raza Khan also made many of his family members including his successor Allama Mufti Akhtar Raza Khan Al-Azhari Baith on the hands of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani.
Another reception was organised in Faisalabad by Muhadith e Azzam e Pakistan Maulana Sardar Ahmad Qadri. Maulana Sardar Ahmad Qadri covered the route from the railway station to his famous Madrassa (Jamia Rizvia) with rolls of white cloth so the car that Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani was travelling in would drive on top of this white cloth. The students of Maulana Sardar Ahmad Qadri(ra) report that there was an area which was left uncovered and they broke down in tears when they saw their teacher Maulana Sardar Ahmad Qadri kneeling down and cleaning this area with his own beard. Maulana Sardar Ahmad Qadri set-up a special three-floor stage, where he made Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani sit at the top, he himself sat on the second floor beneath the feet of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani and made his own sons sit on the third floor.
Many other eminent Scholars of the Sub-Continent have similar stories. Qutb e Madinah, Maulana Muhammad Ziauddin Madani Qadri spent many years in Baghdad, where he would serve as a Personal Servant (Khadim) of the Family of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani and Maulana Muhammad Ali Jauhar and Maulana Shokat Ali Jauhar both had taken Baith on the hands of Naqeeb ul Ashraaf, Imaam ul Arifeen Syedna Mahmood Hussamuddin al-Gillani Al-Qadri (the father of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani)
Many rulers were also aware of the Spiritual Status and Power of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani and had taken Baith on his hands or would visit him to receive his duas. When Pir Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra) first arrived in Quetta Shareef, they were visited by President Marshall Ayub Khan. He welcomed Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani to Pakistan stating that "It is a great honour and privellege for Pakistan that you have decided to stay here" and offered Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani any wealth or land he desired. Hearing this , Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani President Marshall Ayub Khan told Hazoor Pir Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra) told Hazoor Pir Syedna Qudwatul Awliya(ra) refused with these memorable words “When the blessings of Allah cease , only then when I ask from his servants’. President Marshall Ayub Khan was so impressed that he also took baith on the hands of Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani. General Zia ul Haq had also taken Baith to Pir Syedna Tahir Allauddin Al-Gillani alongside his entire family who are Baith till the present day.
