Tamazula de Gordiano (also known as Tamazula) is a city in the Mexican state of Jalisco. The word "tamazula" comes from the Nahuatl word tamazullan, which means "place or lagoon of toads."

Tamazula is the seat of the municipality of the same name (Tamazula de Gordiano). The municipality is a territorial extension of 1324.48 km². It is divided into 6 municipal delegations:

  3. Vista Hermosa
  4. Morelos (Santa Rosa)
  5. Nigromante (San Juan de la Montaña)
  6. El Tulillo

POBLACIÓN

Tamazula recently gained city status after the 2000 census reported that the city had 51,545 residents. [1] A vast majority of the city's residents are employed at the Ingenio Azucaro de Tamazula, S.A. de C.V. where sugar cane from the surrounding vicinities within the municipality is turned into sugar and alcohol.

The ingenio (sugar mill) as its known by the people here is the major source of revenue for the city and the municipality as a whole, followed by tourism and trade.

17 de Octubre de 2007: Adrián Gil Pérez, Cronista de la Ciudad, hizo pública la propuesta de nombrar a partir de esta fecha a Tamazula, como "La perla del sureste de Jalisco".

FERIA TAMAZULA

Cada año durante el 20 de enero al 2 de febrero se celebran las fiestas patronales a la Virgen del Sagrario en dicha ciudad. Durante estas 2 semanas hay eventos para toda la familia y para todos los gustos. Se cuenta con presentaciones de estrellas musicales internacionales como Banda El Recodo, Banda "Arrolladora" El Limon, Joan Sebastian, Mariachi Internacional Vargas de Tecalitlan asi como presentaciones de comediantes como Teo Gonzalez, Jo Jo Jorge Falcon, Jorge "Coque" Muñiz por mencionar algunos.
