The City is an MTV reality television series and a spin-off of the MTV show The Hills. It documents the changing life and surroundings of Whitney Port as she moves to New York City to work for fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[1] The program premiered December 29, 2008 and concluded its full first season December 1, 2009. It has been confirmed on The Hills/The City Aftershow, by Whitney herself that there will be a second season coming soon.[2] The second season is currently scheduled to premiere April 27, 2010.[3]

Monday's 10 p.m. premiere of MTV's new Hills spin-off, The City, averaged 1.6 million viewers, a significant drop-off from the season 4 finale of The Hills, which averaged 2.6 million at 10 p.m. the previous Monday.[4]
MTV and Amazon.com have struck a deal to produce DVDs for some MTV shows, through the CreateSpace service. Using a concept similar to print on demand, Amazon will be making the discs, cover art, and disc art themselves. Season One: Part One was released August 11, 2009 on Amazon's website.[5] It was also released in Australia on November 3, 2009 with alternative cover art.[6]
On December 17, 2009, Amazon.com released, Season One: Part Two, and The Complete First Season (Parts 1 & 2). All of season one is now available for order. [7]
