The Colony High School (TCHS), located in The Colony, Texas currently hosts grades 9 through 12. It is part of the Lewisville Independent School District.It was mentioned in Newsweeks 1,000 Best Schools in America[2]. TCHS boasts several nationally-known sports graduates.

History

The Colony High School, built in The Colony, Texas, opened in 1986 as part of Lewisville ISD. Seniors of the 1987 class attended Lewisville High School; TCHS initially had only grades 9-11. The class of 1999 at TCHS had many accomplishments that remain literally etched in stone on the bricks located near the bus pick-up/drop-off area. Hebron High School was built in 2000, which drew many students from TCHS.

Sports & Extracurricular activities

The Colony High School has since become one of the premier high schools in the district. Its fine arts program has received numerous awards on a national level. Including band, orchestra, and JROTC have received numerous rewards. Physically, the school continues to evolve. A new gym was added in 2004, which combined with the two existing gyms to provide the students with state-of-the-art recreational environments. Additionally, a college level weight room dubbed the "Powerhouse" was built and furnished with a black and gold weight set and steel bars (matching the school colors). The Colony continues to send students into THSPA state finals each year led by strength coach Kevin Kallus, and is arguably has the hardest working group of athletes in the state of Texas. In 2008 The Colony’s defense was ranked the 2nd best in the 5-4A district led by Defensive coordinator David Walthall. The Colony football team has a phenomenal running offense also led by Kevin Kallus, with players such as; Tony Peoples (2007-2008), Chima Akolam (2009), and Ronnie Wilson (2009).The team is a team of mostly sophomores with growing talent. 2009's athletes said to be joining the The Colony’s brute football team are Isaiah Hinton(fr.) Daniel Kim (fr.) Bijzon Brown (fr.) and many soon to be juniors. Head Coach and Athletic Coordinator is Rudy Rangel, who drastically changed the schools football team since 2006. The girls soccer team won state in 2007, also Leah Mitchell a senior represented TCHS in cross country at the state meet in December 2006. The 2009 Cross country teams varsity girls consisting of Erin Dombkowski, Madison Dombkowski, Leticia Aguilar, Kim Carr, Erin Willeford, Katherine Lopez, and katie Meyers got 1st place in district. The varsity boys got 4th. The JV boys got 2nd. The JV girls consisting of top runners Ashley Escobar, Ashley Mims, Adela Silva, Carolyn LeBlanc, Maria Vasquez, Brittany Smith, Amie Kas, Cristina Martinez, Maci Murowski got 1st in district as well.

Academics

The Colony High School offers a standard Texas high school curriculum as defined by the Texas State graduation requirements. In addition to those minimum requirements, The Colony High School also offers numerous College Board Advanced Placement (AP) courses that gives students the opportunity to qualify for college credit. Recently, all LISD schools, including The Colony High School, entered into a partnership with local community colleges to offer students dual-credit summer courses that, if passed, qualifies as credit for both high school graduation and college. In 2008-2009 a new band hall, drum room, color guard room, and practice rooms were added.
