The Eclipse is an Irish film directed by Conor McPherson. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 24, 2009 where, after reports of interest from several studios, Magnolia Pictures secured worldwide distribution rights for the film. The film aired on Irish public-service broadcaster RTÉ One on March 17, 2010 [1].

Premise

In an Irish town by the sea, a widower (Hinds) believes he is seeing apparitions. As a volunteer at the town's annual literary festival, he meets a writer of supernatural novels (Hjejle) and begins to develop a relationship with her. He finds competition from an American writer (Quinn) who is trying to win over the novelist.
