From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse is an
upcoming romantic-fantasy film scheduled for release on June
30, 2010.[1] It
is based on Stephenie Meyer's Eclipse and will be the third
installment of The Twilight Saga
film series, following 2008's Twilight and 2009's New
Moon. Summit Entertainment greenlit the film in
February 2009.[1]
Directed by David
Slade, the film will star Kristen Stewart, Robert
Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as
Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and
Jacob Black,
respectively.[2]
Melissa
Rosenberg will be returning as screenwriter.[3] Rachelle
Lefevre, who played Victoria in the previous
two installments, will not be returning due to scheduling
conflicts; instead, Bryce Dallas Howard will play
Victoria.[4]
It is the first Twilight film to be released in IMAX.[5]
Plot
Summit Entertainment released a plot summary of The Twilight
Saga: Eclipse on February 20, 2009, which states:
|
“ |
As Seattle is ravaged by
a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues
her quest for revenge, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by
danger. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her
love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her
decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between
vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching,
Bella has one more decision to make: life or death.[1] |

vampires and can control/manipulate emotions.[15]
The film also explores Jasper's backstory as a human during the American

Production
Development
In early November 2008, Summit announced that they had attained
the rights to the remaining books in Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series: New
Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking
Dawn.[35]
In February 2009, Summit confirmed that they would begin working on
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. On the same day, it was
announced that since New Moon director Chris Weitz would be in
post-production for New Moon when The Twilight Saga:
Eclipse began shooting, he would not be directing the third
film.[36][37]
Instead, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse will be helmed by
director David
Slade, with Melissa Rosenberg returning as
screenwriter.[38]
In January 2010, an early draft of the film's script was leaked
on the Internet.[39]
The script presumably belonged to star Jackson Rathbone, as his
name was watermarked across each page.[39]
Casting
Bryce
Dallas Howard will be replacing Rachelle Lefevre as Victoria. Summit
Entertainment attributed the change to scheduling conflicts, and
Lefevre responded that she was "stunned" and "greatly saddened" by
the decision.[40] Jodelle Ferland
has been cast as the newly turned vampire, Bree.[22]
Other new cast members include Xavier Samuel as Riley,[24]
Jack Huston as Royce
King II,[33]
Catalina Sandino Moreno as
Maria,[41]Julia Jones as Leah Clearwater,[22]
and Boo Boo
Stewart as Seth Clearwater.[22]
Filming
Principal photography began on
August 17 at Vancouver Film Studios[42][43] and
ended on October 29, 2009.[44]
Sequel
Summit Entertainment announced in
November 2008 that they had obtained the rights to the fourth book
in Stephenie
Meyer's series, Breaking Dawn.[45]
Though Summit has not yet officially greenlit the project, stars Robert
Pattinson and Ashley Greene have stated that there are
plans for a Breaking Dawn film and that production is
expected to begin after the completion of The Twilight Saga:
Eclipse.[46][47] Wyck
Godfrey, producer of the previous films in the series, said,
"...it's a little overwhelming to really think in a detailed manner
of how we're going to crack this, but we have every intention to
make Breaking Dawn."[48] When
talking about Taylor Lautner's next film for Summit Entertainment,
producer Wyck Godfrey stated, "Lautner will reprise his role of
Jacob in "Breaking Dawn" beginning in late 2010, and it is likely
that the final book will be divided into two films that will shoot
back-to-back."[49]
