The Witness is an upcoming three-dimensional (3-D) puzzle video game by Jonathan Blow, an independent developer and the creator of Braid. The game was announced in August 2009 and is scheduled for release in 2011.[1] In interviews, Blow described the work as "an exploration-puzzle game on an uninhabited island."[1][2]

Development

On 28 February 2010, the official The Witness website uploaded Eric Urquhart's conceptual artwork portraying a variety of 3-D environments. According to Blow, the game would feature "a graphical style that values simplicity," suited to "mellower environments, with both indoor and outdoor settings."[2] Another designer, Ignacio CastaƱo, was revealed to have been working on a rendering system for the in-game global illumination and visual effects.[3]
