Adams was born in London, United Kingdom to a Greek Cypriot father and British mother. Adams studied at Fine Arts College, Hampstead. He left the formal education system aged 15 to concentrate on his performance career.[2]
Adams is known for both his live productions and film work. After several years of solo shows, Adams formed The Theo Adams Company in 2008. The Company comprises a collection of dancers, performers and musicians.[3] Adams's productions, which are heavily improvised involve elements of physical theatre, musical composition, dance, cabaret, costume, film projection, lighting and set design. Together these elements create an indefinable performance spectacle. By age 19, Adams had staged productions internationally, including the Tate Britain and Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the finale of the NY Art Book Fair in New York and URA! in Istanbul.
He has contributed to i-D and Dazed & Confused magazines and appeared topless in the June 2008 issue of French Playboy shot by Rankin.[4]
In April 2009, The Theo Adams Company completed their 'Performance' project , a series of performances in an abandoned Catholic school in northwest London. It was published in the May 2009 issue of W Magazine with photography by David Sims. The company of dancers, musicians and performers were joined by special guests Lorna Luft and Tony award-winner Frances Ruffelle. [3] On the 27th of February 2010 a film which was part of the project was screened at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in New York. [5]
In November 2009, The Theo Adams Company announced 'Cry Out' a new theatrical production. It will be performed in cities worldwide in 2010. They will collaborate with musicians, artist and performers in each city to create a unique take on the show for every audience. Among the collaborators are David Sims who photographed the company for a series of special images for the project and visuals and projections were created with artist Matthew Stone. The world premiere took place on 30 November, 2009 at the Za Koenji Theatre in Tokyo, Japan. [6] The production will have its European premiere on 8 May at the Donaufestival in Austria. [7]
