Thierry Breton (born January 15, 1955 in Paris) was the French Minister of Economy, Finance and Industry in the governments of Jean-Pierre Raffarin (Prime Minister) and then of Dominique de Villepin (Prime Minister), Jacques Chirac being the President de la Republique.

Early life

He was born in the XIVe arrondissement of Paris. He is married to Valerie Baroin (1981) and the father of three: Constance (1984), Alexandre (1985), Severine (1988).

He received a masters degree in electrical engineering and computer science from Supélec and later graduated from the Institut des hautes études de défense nationale (IHEDN).

Manager

He began his career as an entrepreneur in New York where he created a software company (FORMA SYSTEMS).

He served as board member of: AXA; La Poste; DEXIA BANQUE; RODHIA; SCHNEIDER ELECTRIC; THOMSON SA (Chairman& CEO); FRANCE TELECOM (Chairman & CEO); ORANGE PLC (Non executive Chairman); BOUYGUES TELECOM; GROUP BULL (Vice Chairman & CEO).

Thomson

He was the Chairman and CEO of Thomson (1997-2002). Turning around the company, he obtained worldwide recognised great results in short term. The value of the company raised from 1FF up to 100 billions FF over his term.

France Telecom

He has been the chairman and chief executive officer of France Télécom (2002-2005) and turned around vigorously the situation, while diminishing the huge indebtness of the company from 70 billions down to 32 billions Euros under his mandate.

Atos Origin

Now, He is the active chairman and CEO of Atos Origin.

The Supervisory Board of Atos Origin chaired by Jean-Philippe Thierry convened on 16 November 2008. The Supervisory Board members decided unanimously to appoint Thierry Breton as CEO and Chairman of the Management Board of Atos Origin to replace Philippe Germond who leaves the Group. The Supervisory Board has appointed Thierry Breton in order to allow the Company to accelerate the roll-out of its transformation plan, refocus on key businesses and reinforce its market share
