^ Shane Meadows is a genius, this film was brilliant.

.The story centres on young skinheads in England in 1983. The film illustrates that skinhead subculture, whose 1960s roots include elements of black culture especially ska, soul and reggae music,[2] became adopted by white nationalists, which led to divisions within the skinhead scene.^ Despite a somewhat rushed ending, the movie does an excellent job not only illustrating how easily hatred can be fostered in the young but chronicling the transformation of skinheads from a reggae-loving nationalistic cult to the military arm of neo-Nazi groups.

^ As in any pack, there are pecking orders and face-offs, but the generous-minded ‘spirit of ’69’ prevails – until the older Combo ( Stephen Graham ) returns from jail exuding the stench of aggressive racism, which can’t quite mask the whiff of something lost, desperate and sad.

.He expresses racist and English nationalist views, and attempts to enforce his leadership over the other skinheads.^ Devoted to sharp dressing, ska music and each other, the warmth and harmony of their gang is threatened by the arrival of Combo - an older skinhead with an angry, racist agenda.

This leads the group to split. .Shaun stays in Combo's racist group instead of the apolitical skinheads led by Woody.^ Shaun's mother (Jo Hartley) doesn't see the essential differences between the Woody skinheads and Combo's skinheads, allowing Shaun to be ushered into a racist mindset...Combo is a creation of pure psychological schism and Graham, in an explosive performance, finds all the brute machismo and misguided hope in his character.
