Thomas Aaron Van Buskirk was born on April 25, 1848 in Pennsylvania to Joseph Buskirk and Ann Evans. In 1850, he lived in Denison, Pennsylvania. Sometime in the 1850s or 1860s, the family moved to Jay, Pennsylvania where they lived in 1870. He married Mary E. Brown on January 17, 1875 in Pennsylvania. In 1880, Thomas, Mary and their two children are living in Huston, Pennsylvania where Thomas worked in the woods. In 1900, Thomas, Mary, and their children are living in Jay, Pennsylvania where Thomas was a farmer. Thomas died on June 15, 1915 in Jay, Pennsylvania. He is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Jay, Elk County, Pennsylvania.
