Timothy S. Black (born 1954) is a United States magistrate judge and current federal judicial nominee to serve on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.

Early life and education

Black earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 1975 and then earned a law degree in 1983 from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University.[1]

Professional career

Black practiced law as a civil litigator for the Cincinnati law firm of Gradyon Head & Ritchey from 1983 until 1993.[1] He then served as a Hamilton County Municipal Court judge from 1994 until 2004.[1]

Work as a magistrate judge

In 2004, the judges on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio selected Black as a United States magistrate judge.[2]

Nomination to federal district court

In July 2009, a bipartisan commission in Ohio selected Black from a list of three finalists and recommended him to President Barack Obama to fill a vacancy on the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio.[2] On December 24, 2009, Obama formally nominated Black to district court.[2]
