Location of Tyuleniy Island in the Sea of Okhotsk.

Tyuleniy Island (Ostrov Tyuleniy) is a small island in the Sea of Okhotsk. It is located 19 km to the south of Cape Patience (Mys Terpeniya), off the southern end of the Terpeniya Peninsula in the eastern Sakhalin coast.

Tyuleniy is 1.6 km long and 850 m wide.

There are many seals in Tyuleniy's shores and its surrounding waters, hence its name which means "seal" in Russian. It was formerly called "Robben Island" from the German name for seal. [1] Seabirds of different species are also abundant on Tyuleniy.

Administratively Tyuleniy Island belongs to the Sakhalin Oblast of the Russian Federation.

The "Tyuleniy Virus", a group B arbovirus, was recovered in 1969 on Tyuleniy Island from ticks on birds.[2]
