Western Segment

US 2 enters Michigan from Wisconsin in Iron Mountain over the Montreal River. Through parts of Gogebic County US 2 passes through the Ottawa National Forest.

Eastern Segment

The eastern terminus of the western segment of U.S. 2 in St. Ignace, MI

US 2 re-enters Michigan in Kingsford then travels east to Escanaba where US 2 starts to follow the coast of Lake Michigan. Along the Lake Michigan shore line US 2 passes through the Hiawatha National Forest in Delta and Mackinac Counties.

History

The first state trunkline highway designated along the path of the modern US 2 was M-12, in use as far back as 1919.[4] When the US Highway System was announced on November 11, 1926,[3] US 2 replaced M-12.[5]

Major intersections

The following table shows the major intersections along US 2. Included are intersections with county-designated highways, other state trunklines and US Highways. MDOT has erected milemarkers along the highway that use the mileage starting at the state line in Ironwood. These markers do not reset at the state line when US 2 crosses back into Wisconsin and instead count that mileage in the totals.
