History

The University of Burgos was founded in 1994 when it separated from the University of Valladolid, which it had belonged to since 1974.

Current

The University of Burgos currently has about 11,000 students on two campuses. It offers classes in four "facultades" (departments): College of Sciences, College of Business and Economics, College of Law, and College of Humanities and Education. It also includes the Higher Polytechnic School, School of Nursing, School of Labor Relations, and School of Tourism.

The Library has important old manuscripts.

Most of the facultades are held in the campus of San Amaro. Some classes take place in the "Hospital del Rey", a former hospital for pilgrims on the Way of St. James (in Spanish: Camino de Santiago), founded in 1195 by Alfonso VIII.

Foreign Students

Students from Millersville University, in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, are able to participate in a Millersville-sponsored exchange program to study abroad at the University of Burgos for one year or one semester.
