Usilampatti (Tamil: உசிலம்பட்டி) is a city and a municipality in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the comparatively rich cities in India. It has a very active business district and an excellent school district. It is also notoriously famous for some violent caste clashes. It was very famous for clay pot materials, confectionery and sweets. It is highly rich with hospitality, brotherhood, customs and heritage. This taluk (district) limit has many number of famous Hindu worship places like PAPAPATTI OTCHANDAMMAN KOIL, Thidian, Sindhupatti, Sadhuragiri hill etc.. Also jallikkattu used to be conducted in Doddappanayakkanoor.(One of the famous JAMIN during Mannar Thirumalai Nayakkar rule in Maudrai).



Usilampatti is located at Madurai District 9°58′N 77°48′E / 9.97°N 77.8°E / 9.97; 77.8[1]. It has an average elevation of 201 metres (659 feet). It has an arts & science college "Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thever (PMT)College". It;s educational schools are

1. Government higher secondary school 2. Nadar Saraswathi higher sec school. 3. T.E.L.C Girls higher secondary school.


As of 2001 India census[2], Usilampatti had a population of 29,599. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Usilampatti has an average literacy rate of 81%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 86%, and female literacy is 76%. In Usilampatti, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Around 60 % of the population belongs to Piramalai kallar community which is an dominent outfit in usilampatti.


Usilampatti assembly constituency is part of Theni (Lok Sabha constituency).[3]
