Encyclopedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The uttarasanga is a part of Buddhist monastic garment, the "triple robe" or tricivara. It is the upper robe, which comes over the undergarment, or antaravasaka. It is described in Vinaya rules (Vin 1:94 289).

In representations of the Buddha, the uttarasanga rarely appears as the uppermost garment, since it is often covered by the outer robe, or sangati.
