Valerio Scanu (born 10 April 1990 in La Maddalena, Sardinia, Italy) is an Italian singer.

In 2008 Valerio took part to the 8th edition of the Italian talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi, in which he came second.

His first studio album Sentimento sold 40,000 copies in the first week after its release in April 2009 and was certified gold. The title song reached number one on the Italian Singles Chart.

In February 2010, he won first place in the 60th edition of the televised Italian song contest, the Sanremo Music Festival with his song Per tutte le volte che. At the age of 19, this made him the youngest male winner in the history of the festival.[1]

Career

Scanu made his first public debut as a singer in 1997 at the age of seven, appearing as a contestant on the television programme Canzone sotto l'albero, where he came in third place. In 2002, he participated in Bravo Bravissimo hosted by Mike Bongiorno, and he won first place.

Scanu participated as a contestant in the 8th edition of the televised talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi, where he was instructed by voice teacher, Luca Jurman. In the finals, he came in second place, losing out to Alessandra Amoroso, who was on the same blue team as Scanu and also received training by Jurman.

In January 2009 SonyBMG Italy released "Scialla", a compilation of the songs sung by the contestants of Amici di Maria De Filippi. in the album there are two songs by Scanu: "Can't Stop" and "Domani". The album reached number one on the Italian charts. His first studio album Sentimento was released on 10 April 2009 in Italy and digitally in Europe. It sold 40,000 copies in the first week after its release, and was certified gold in Italy. The title song Sentimento reached number one on the Italian Singles Chart. In May 2009, the music video for the second single Dopo di Me was filmed, and on July 8, 2009 a cover of Listen by Beyoncé was released.

Scanu was the winner in the 60th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival in 2010, with his song Per tutte le volte che which was written by Pierdavide Carone. Scanu was initially eliminated in the second round of voting; however as a result of the amount of televotes received, was "saved" on the third evening of the contest, and therefore remained a contestant going on to win first place.

Second EP

Scanu released his second, eponymous EP album in October 2009. It was produced by Charlie Rapino (Spice Girls, Take That, Kylie Minogue, Geri Halliwell). The first single released was Ricordati di Noi.
