Vauix Carter was an American college football head coach who holds the distinction as being the Navy Midshipmen football program's very first head coach. He led Navy to a 1–0–0 record in 1882 – the only season he coached the team. In that November 30 game, the Midshipmen defeated Johns Hopkins by a score of 8–0. Interestingly, Carter doubled as a player-coach in 1882 (the only year he lettered); he was a junior in 1882–83 and later graduated from the Naval Academy in 1884.
