Encyclopedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vijayasree (Vijayashree or Vijayasri) was a Malayalam film actress and sex symbol from India in the 1970s. She acted in many movies opposite to Prem Nazir.

She gained popularity due to her beauty. She was contemporary to the popular Malayalm actress Jayabharathi. Her most notable films are Angathattu (1973), Arumalunni (1972), Ponnapuram Kotta (1973) (last two films were directd by Kunchacko). In all these films, she starred opposite Prem Nazir. During the course of her career, rather at the end, she parted ways with Kunchacko.

Unfortunately she committed suicide at a very young age,[1][2] the probable cause of which has been suspected to be her perceived exploitation by forces within the Malayalam film industry of that time.
