Viper Comics was founded in December 2001 as an independent publisher in Dallas, Texas specializing in indie comics from creative teams working on projects otherwise unlikely to achieve retail distribution. Viper Comics has received critical acclaim from the independent comics community, most notably for Villains [1] [2] and Dead @ 17. More recently The Middleman and Emily Edison have been selected as 2007 Great Graphic Novels for Teens by The Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), the fastest growing division of the American Library Association (ALA).[3]
In June 2008 they announced the launch of Black Mamba Books, a horror imprint whose first publication would be a comic book version of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.[4] Also in June 2008, their series of comics and graphic novels The Middleman, created by Javier Grillo-Marxuach and illustrated by Les McClaine, debuted as a television series on ABC Family June 16, 2008[5].
