WDDZ (550 AM) is a radio station broadcasting a Children's Radio format. Licensed to Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA, the station serves the Providence area. The station is owned by the Walt Disney Company and features programing from Radio Disney.[1]

History

The station went on the air as WPAW. In the 1960s the station's call became WXTR and then later WGNG with the format as Top-40. Around 1980 the station became oldies as "Gold-N-Great." The next callsign change occurring on Halloween 1985 when the station changed its call sign to WICE (which were vacated from 1290 in Providence). With a change in ownership & format it became a simulcast of Boston's all business-talk WBNW as WPNW. The WPNW call became official on June 16, 1995. After 2 years of business talk it changed on December 12, 1997 to WLKW. On July 17, 2000 the WICE calls returned, and finally the station changed calls one last time to the current WDDZ on May 16, 2001.[2]
