WVYC is an FCC licensed college radio station transmitting on an FM broadcast band assigned frequency of 99.7 MHz. The station broadcasts from the Robert V. Iosue Student Union Building on the campus of York College of Pennsylvania in York, PA. WVYC is unique as the only college station in the United States that continues a separate broadcast using an AM carrier current transmission to the campus along with a licensed FM transmission. Both stations stream audio on the Web and broadcast on the campus cable television system. The web page is www.wvyc.org

The station began broadcasting on 88.1 MHz on November 18th, 1976 with the inauguration of College President, Robert V. Iosue. The broadcast day was from 4pm to midnight. The broadcast day continued to expand over the years with the station now on the air 24/7 while classes are in session, although a computer automated playlist is used during the early morning hours.

The York College station is the only class D non-commercial, educational FM radio station in southern Pennsylvania. It broadcasts a free-form alternative music block format, including modern Hip-hop, Indie rock, Alternative rock, Latin Music, Electronic Music, and Heavy Metal. The station's registered slogan is "York's Only True Alternative".

WVYC is a member of and airs news from the Associated Press. The station produces and broadcasts a variety of educational, instructional and public affairs programs. WVYC is a long time member station of the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System.

The station is licensed to the college Board of Trustees and operates as a division of the Academic Communications Department. Students can receive up to four practicum college credits while working at the station. Both FM 99.7 and AM 640 are run entirely by York College students with long time faculty adviser and founder, Thomas K. Gibson overseeing the daily operations. WVYC has also recently been hosting free, all ages live music events on the college campus to bring exposure and promotion to York-Harrisburg-Lancaster-Carlisle musical acts with the most notable event being the April Annihilation Showcase[[1]] annually hosted by Heavy Metal DJs "Jersey" John Hay, "Big" Phil Effinger, and Sean "That Guy" Miller.
