From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Wind power in Illinois has been supported by a renewable portfolio standard, passed in 2007, and strengthened in 2009, which requires 10% renewable energy from electric companies by 2010 and 25% by 2025. Illinois has about 1,000 megawatts (MW) of wind power installed, and the potential for up to 10,000 MW.[1] A 2001 wind map shows that most of the state has class 2 and class 3 winds, and that utilizing the 1.2% of the state with the best winds could supply 9,000 megawatts of wind power.[2]
