Encyclopedia

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Women's World Cup of Golf is a professional golf tournament contested by teams of two female golfers representing their respective countries.

The tournament has been played every year since 2005 in South Africa, with a current total purse of US$1.4 million. The field consists of twenty-two teams and each qualifying country can field one team. Historically, it has been held in January or February, at the beginning of the season for the world's dominant professional tour, the U.S. LPGA tour, and of other major tours such as those in Japan and Europe. In 2009, plans are to move the event so that it falls after the end of the tour season.
