From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Women in Prison was a short-lived American television sitcom, which aired on Fox from October 11, 1987 to April 2, 1988.

Set in cell-bock J of the Bass Women's prison in Wisconsin, the show focused on the interactions between the prison inmates. The show's cast included Peggy Cass, Julia Campbell, Antoinette Byron, Blake Clark, Denny Dillon, CCH Pounder and Wendie Jo Sperber.

Vicki Springer, a Yuppie, (Campbell) was brought to Bass Women's Prison for supposedly shoplifting (she had been framed by her no-good husband); and she had to deal with the inmates. Eve Shipley (Cass) was the old lady prisoner, having been there for almost 10 years; Dawn Murphy (Pounder) was a bad tempered african american woman who had murdered her husband; Bonnie Harper (Byron) was in for prostitution; and in a cell of her own, with computer access, was Pam (Sperber) who was, not surprisingly, in prison for computer fraud. They all had to contend with guard Meg Bando (Dillon), the cell block guard; and the assistant warden, Clint Rafferty (Clark), whom Vicki worked for, as a secretary and he was attracted to.

Only 13 episodes of the series were produced and aired. The show was not renewed for a second season.
