After forming Beyond, Steve's older brother, Wong Ka-Kui, asked to practice the keyboard so he could join the band. However, Steve disliked keyboard and opted for bass guitar.

Wong formed a new band called Picasso Horses since the disband of Beyond in 2005.

At the 23rd Annual Hong Kong Film Awards, Beyond won the award for "Best Original Film Song" for "Vast Skies" (長空 or "Chang Kong"), written by Steve Wong and Yip Sai Wing.

He is now married to a Japanese wife and has a son.
