Yossi Brackman (born 1975) is the rabbi at the University of Chicago and, together with his wife Baila, serves as the director of the Chabad Jewish Center that serves the university and the Hyde Park Jewish community.

Rabbi Brackman received his rabbinical ordination through the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva.

Rabbi Yossi Brackman was born and raised in London England, where he received his education at the Lubavitch House Schools. Throughout his teenage years Yossi spent his vacations organizing and directing communal programs and children’s camps in many cities and countries, including his hometown of London, England, Seattle, Washington, and New York.

In 1997 he was instrumental in founding the Lubavitch Mesivta of Chicago for Rabbinical students on Chicago’s North Side. It was in Chicago that he completed his studies and received rabbinical ordination.

In 1999, after their marriage, Yossi and Baila Brackman spent a few months as interim leaders of the Jewish community in Shanghai, China. In September 2000 they moved to Chicago to establish the Chabad Jewish Center at the University of Chicago.

Rabbi Brackman has also taught Jewish studies at various schools, including the Seymour J. Abrams Hebrew Day School and Lubavitch Girls High School and Yeshivat Tomchei Temimim.

Rabbi Brackman is married to the former Baila Hecht and together they have four children.

Work at the University of Chicago

As the rabbi on the campus and director of the Chabad Jewish Center, Rabbi Brackman teaches many classes on Jewish issues, Torah and Chassidic philosophy. He also teaches the acclaimed Sinai Scholars course. Rabbi Brackman has also consulted the university on issues related to student Jewish life, including kosher dining.

The Chabad Jewish Center is also part of the University of Chicago's Religion on the Quadsand the Hyde Park Kenwood Council of Jewish Organizations.

Rabbi Yossi Brackman also serves as a board member of the Akiba Schechter Jewish Day School in Hyde Park.

Rabbi Yossi Brackman also serves on the advisory board for the newly formed Akiva Society.
