From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zacharias Conrad von Uffenbach (1683–1734) was a German scholar, bibliophile, book-collector, traveller, palaeographer, and consul in Frankfurt am Main. He was born in lawyer's family.[1] Name of his brother was Johann Friedrich von Uffenbach.

Uffenbach described some of 18th-centuries English museums and private collections (f.e. Hans Sloane's collection).[2] In 1710 he visited Oxford to examine manuscripts in University libraries.[3]

Uffenbach collected a big collection of oriental manuscripts.[4] In 1711 his library contained about 12.000 books. After his death Johann Christoph Wolf acquired his collection.
