Zimbabweans in Australia include migrants to the Australia of people from Zimbabwe (formerly the colony of Southern Rhodesia), as well as their descendants. Today, a significant number of people in Australia were either born in Zimbabwe or are descended from Zimbabweans.

Background

The Zimbabwean population in Australia has been changing rapidly for two reasons, both of which mean that the 2001 figures are almost certainly substantially out of date. The 2006 Australian Census registered 20,157 Zimbabwe-born living in Australia.

Population distribution

Almost half of Zimbabweans in Australia reside in Perth. The Zimbabwean population in Australia stood at 1,000 in 1991, and now is estimated to be over 20,000.
