From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The zinc matrix battery is a rechargeable silver-oxide battery designed by Zinc Matrix Power[1]. The chemistry consists mainly of zinc, silver, and water. The battery has been designed to be free of thermal runaway, which has been the main downside for lithium-ion batteries. [1]

Based in Camarillo, California, USA, the company has focused on designing a safer alternative to lithium-ion batteries. [2] The company claims that the battery achieves 200 W·h/kg specific energy and energy density of 500 W·h/l. [3] This would mean that for same sized batteries, a zinc matrix battery would store almost twice as much energy and weigh a little less than a Li-ion. In addition to this, the company claims it has "very low self discharge" and no memory effect.
