Encyclopedia

Hold-ups or Stay-ups (also referred to as Thigh Highs in the USA) are stockings with a band of silicone and elastic sewn to the top. This ensures that the stockings stay in place when worn. With hold-ups the wearer doesn't need a garter belt and doesn't show suspender bumps through skirts or dresses.

Considered superior to conventional tights in terms of hygiene (in terms of reducing excessive microbial growth due to humidity and warmth) and retention of the classic popular "stocking top" line.
