Proto-Germanic *rerōd- (speech), reduplicated preterite of Proto-Germanic *rēdanan (to advise, guess, interpret). Akin to Old High German rarta, Old Norse rödd, Gothic 𐍂𐌰𐌶𐌳𐌰 (razda), Old English reord, 1st and 3rd person singular preterite of rǣdan "to read"
